Throughout the movie Ralphie is on a mission to convince his parents, his teacher, and Santa that a Red Ryder B.B. gun really is the perfect gift for the 1940s. Various times in the movie when asked what he would like for Christmas, the joys of wanting a B.B gun back fire at him with the phrase "You'll shoot your eye out kid!".
